Secure Parking will throw open the gates to five car parks located in Brisbane CBD for free parking on ANZAC day. Secure wish to specifically encourage the elderly, diggers and their families to take advantage of this offer which is available from 3:00 a.m. til 3:00 p.m. on Friday 25 April, 2008.
With thousands of Brisbane residents and dignitaries expected to attend the Brisbane Dawn Service at the Shrine of Remembrance in ANZAC Square and the ANZAC Day march which winds itself through the CBD, organisers welcomed additional parking resources to meet the growing numbers who commemorate ANZAC Day.
Brisbane's ANZAC Day Chief Marshall, Les Luypljev, encouraged the community, especially the elderly who needed to access parking, to plan ahead.
"The parade has become very popular to attend, with up to 15,000 people marching and more than 60,000 watching last year. As diggers and their families get older they are often driven in to the city for the march, having free access to Secure's car parks will make this journey a lot easier on everyone,” says Mr Luypljev.
The following car parks in Brisbane's CBD will be open from 3.00am through to 3.00pm. Note that the first three (3) car parks will be in lockdown due to road closures from 8am to 1pm.
Participants taking advantage of this offer will need to carefully check road closures and specified times.
Secure Parking's Queensland Manager, David Knight encouraged all residents to plan their trip to the ANZAC day activities. "The free parking offer is especially targeted to families and the elderly who need to park close to ANZAC Square or the parade route. By providing free parking we wish to encourage participation in the ANZAC day events, especially for those who would normally decide to stay at home because they can't get close enough,” says Knight.
